Contract Duration

Organisational Context
The Library, archives and Legacy team is part of the Information Management Unit and Information Management Services Section within the Registry. It is the Library’s mandate to meet the information needs of the constituents of the International Criminal Court, Presidency, Chambers, Office of the Prosecutor and Office of the Registry, and provide comprehensive and relevant information resources (both print and electronic), an accessible collection as well as efficient and timely services to advance legal scholarship and support the investigations and jurisprudence undertaken by the Court exercising its jurisdiction.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Library team with providing a reference and circulation service to members of the Court by:

  • Carrying out circulation tasks (borrowing, renewing and reserving items, registering and checking out users)
  • Answering email, telephone and in person enquiries including processing inter-library loan requests, locating online journal articles and responding to reference queries
  • Helping library patrons conduct print and electronic bibliographic research, including online databases
  • Recording library statistics
  • Shelving, labelling and processing publications as necessary
  • Opening and closing the Library
  • Support cataloguing and classification workflows, including archiving of digital objects
  • Contribute to library projects, for example:
  • Creation of library guides
  • Development and updating of the intranet/internet
  • Delivery of training
  • Assist the Archives and Legacy team as required with the appraisal and description of materials.

Required Qualifications
Education:
All Candidates must have a degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognised university. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance.
A qualification in library/ information science or the intention to pursue one in the near future is desirable, but not necessary.
Experience:
Internship placements focus on candidates in the early stages of their professional careers therefore; practical experience is not an essential prerequisite for selection. However, practical experience that is relevant to the work of the Court, in particular prior library, legal or research experience may be considered an asset. Full training will be provided.
The Library particularly welcomes applications from young information professionals, who wish to gain experience in the field of foreign, comparative and international law librarianship.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Maintains a service-orientated attitude at all times.
  • Has a genuine interest in international law, particularly international criminal law, and legal research.
  • Able to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments.
  • Possesses strong teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).
  • Has acquired a good standard of computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications).

Knowledge of Languages:
Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English, is required. Working knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Remuneration
Please note that the ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship Programme with remuneration, nor is it possible to provide any reimbursement for any expenses incurred during the internship. Accordingly, applicants must have the necessary resources or other financial support for the duration of the internship for which they have been selected.

World Trade Organization

The WTO Secretariat maintains a limited internship programme for post-graduate university students wishing to gain practical experience and deeper knowledge of the multilateral trading system. Only a limited number of such internship posts is available.
As part of the internship programme, we also offer the WTO Accessions Internship Programme
(http://www.wto.org/english/thewto_e/acc_e/acc_internship_e.htm), sponsored by the Government of China, within the framework of the MOU on the “China’s LDCs and Accessions Programme” established in July 2011. Four internship positions are available on an annual basis under this Programme.
Interested candidates should follow the procedures and conform to the eligibility criteria set out below.
Intake to the programme is on a continuing basis, with no specific recruitment period. There is no opening or closing date for applications.
Duration:  Up to 24 weeks.
General FunctionsAssignments given to interns are intended to enhance interns’ knowledge and understanding of the WTO and of trade policy more generally. However, the needs of the Division recruiting an intern will be paramount in determining the precise nature of assignments.

RULES AND PROCEDURES FOR INTERNS
Eligibility:
Interns are recruited from among nationals of WTO Members state.
Interns will have completed their undergraduate studies in a relevant discipline (e.g. economics, law, political science, international relations), and shall have completed at least one year of their postgraduate studies.
The minimum age for an intern shall be 21 years and the maximum age 30 years.
A roster of suitable candidates is maintained from which interns are selected. In addition to the regular internship programme, the need may also arise to recruit interns at short notice for particular tasks. These recruits will also be drawn from the roster. Names will not be maintained on the roster for longer than one year.
Contractual Terms and Conditions:
Paid interns receive a daily allowance of CHF 60 (including week-ends and official holidays falling within the selected period). No other remuneration of any kind shall be paid.
Internships take place in Geneva, Switzerland only. Travel expenses to and from Geneva cannot be paid by the WTO, and such travel is not covered by the Organization’s insurance. Interns are also responsible for their own insurance cover for illness and accidents while they are working at the WTO.
The WTO may also employ unpaid interns funded from external sources.
Internships are generally of a duration of up to 24 weeks, the length of the internship depending on the project the interns is requested to work on, and on the needs of each Division. The granting of an internship does not entail in any way the right to an extension thereof nor to a vacancy in another part of the Secretariat. Interns may nevertheless apply to external vacancies. Internships can start at any time during the year.
An internship can be terminated by the WTO Secretariat or by the intern with one week’s notice.
The Director responsible for an intern will write an evaluation report at the end of the internship, and the intern will also be required to evaluate the internship. Both evaluations will be placed on file.
An agreement will be established between the intern and the Director of the Human Resources Division, specifying the conditions of service and details of any remuneration.
Interns are treated like secretariat staff members during their stay insofar as their obligations, in particular with regard to confidentiality.

The Comprehensive Rural Health Project, Jamkhed (CRHP), has been working among the rural poor and marginalized for over 40 years. Founded in 1970 by Drs. Raj and Mabelle Arole to bring healthcare to the poorest of the poor, CRHP has become an organization that empowers people to eliminate injustices through integrated efforts in health and development. CRHP works by mobilizing and building the capacity of communities to achieve access to comprehensive development and freedom from stigma, poverty and disease.
Pioneering a comprehensive approach to primary community-based healthcare, known as the Jamkhed Model, CRHP has been a leader in public health and development in rural communities in India and around the world. The work of CRHP has been recognized by the WHO and UNICEF. In the last 40 years, CRHP has directly worked with over 300 villages primarily within Maharashtra, India.
CRHP established the Jamkhed International Institute in order to systemize the sharing of the Jamkhed experience with others, people from throughout India and the world, students and faculty in various disciplines, professionals and staff of NGOs and government.
Internship Program
The CRHP Internship Program is currently offering an internship in development, communications, programs, and evaluations. Since its introduction, the internship program has become a very competitive and sought after placement for new graduates from around the world.
The intern will assist the International Training Coordinator with international groups that come for courses and individuals in diploma course (usually in role as liaison); perform the role of ‘office manager’; and assist with the library with the Coordinator and librarian.
The intern will learn about CRHP’s work mainly through the courses s/he assists with, as well as will get to know people from all over the world who come to learn from CRHP staff and villagers.
This is a 6-month minimum unpaid internship. Working hours are typically from 9am-6pm Monday through Saturday. Interns are given one-week holiday during their stay. CRHP provides room and board on its campus in Jamkhed, India to all interns. Internship does not cover flight to and from home country and visa fees.
What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in public health, development, or NGOs
  • Good writing skills and experience writing promotional materials, editing, producing and revising training resources (print, ppt)

The UNOV Library provides full library and information services to the staff of the United Nations units and Permanent Missions in Vienna.  The collection focuses on issues related to drugs and crime, outer space affairs, as well as translation and interpretation. For the UNCITRAL Law Library, experience with legal materials or course work in law would be considered an asset.

Background

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with 190 member National Societies. Organizational Context

Archives contribute to the organization in three main ways. They foster and facilitate: 1. Organizational Memory: as evidence of past actions, the archives can help to avoid duplication of effort by acting as sources of information on key issues or problems that the Federation faces again and again. 2. Historical Research: the archives are everyday business records that have been preserved, so they can give a researcher a closer look at the way the Federation operated in the past than any other source. 3. Accountability: the archives can be checked to ensure that the activities and responsibilities that have been entrusted to the Federation have been carried out as effectively as possible.

Job Purpose

The Federation is looking to hire two archival studies students for 13 weeks to work on archival arrangement and description projects. The projects will be suitable for students going into the second year of archives studies. The students must be able to read French, as some of the records are only in French. The students will have to work fairly independently, and often with limited supervision.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

– Appraise (in consultation with supervisor) records in storage to determine which should be transferred to the Archives.
– Arrange and describe the records, and enter the descriptions into a database.
– Assess the physical condition of the records and identify those requiring conservation treatment.
– Re-box and re-file the records.

Completion of first year of archival studies.

Must be able to read French. Ability to speak French is useful but is not essential.

The Department to Address Transnational Threats (TNT Department) supports the Secretary General in functioning as the focal point of Organization-wide programmatic activities relating to countering transnational threats and in ensuring co-ordination and coherence of action across all three dimensions and among all OSCE executive structures, while respecting their mandates. The TNT Department comprises the Co-ordination Cell, the Strategic Police Matters Unit, the Anti-Terrorism Issues Unit and the Border Security and Management Unit.
The Co-ordination Cell (CC) of the TNTD supports the Secretary General and the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office in all cyber/ICT security-related matters and acts as focal point for requests from participating States (pS) for activities to enhance cyber/ICT security and supports them in the implementation and development of pertinent confidence-building measures (CBMs). TNTD/CC also promotes OSCE efforts in this area at international expert meetings and liaises with internal and external partners to explore potential areas of co-operation and collaboration.
The POLIS Online Information System was developed and launched in 2006 as a web application that provides users with a digital library, a database of international experts available for short-term assessments in countering transnational threats, a database of country profiles related to law-enforcement agencies and criminal justice systems in pS, a discussion platform for online events and associated social media presences.  TNTD have built a new online information platform by utilising state-of-the-art web technologies, based on the experience and feedback accumulated since 2006, to better reflect OSCE-wide activities in addressing transnational threats.
The Co-ordination Cell is looking for an intern for up to 6 months to start in March 2017 to help them with the migration of content from the old POLIS digital library to the new library.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision/guidance of the Information Management Officer, the intern will assist with:

  • Migrating assets from the old web site to Drupal 8, which requires reviewing and providing the proper metadata and ensuring the entries’ adherence to style guidelines;
  • Proofreading entries on Drupal 8 for proper metadata, inclusion of associated files and other criteria;
  • Assessing user experience of the Drupal 8 site;
  • Performing any other related duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:
 

  • Applicants should be under the age of 30 (on the date of the deadline of this vacancy) and from an OSCE participating State;
  • University degree or currently enrolled in a Masters in information management, library science/digital libraries OR a first level degree in journalism with a strong emphasis on copy-editing/proofreading;
  • Some previous work experience or an internship related to management of thematic information repositories or in web editing and copy-editing would be an asset;
  • Strong analytical and research skills;
  • Attention to detail with ability to process and classify information quickly and efficiently;
  • Professional fluency in English with very good communication skills; knowledge of another OSCE language, especially Russian, would be an asset;

It is appropriate for advanced students or recent graduates in library and information science, with a preference for those specializing in archives, museums, or cultural resource management. This is an excellent opportunity to gain international experience and to travel and live in a safe environment in the Middle East.
Working directly with the Jordanian project coordinator, the Archival Intern will be responsible for the routine processing (i.e., describing, cataloging, numbering/filing, and storing) of the ACOR photographic collections according to the priorities and workplan defined by the project’s consulting Senior Archivist. The Archival Intern will also oversee the work of one or more archival technicians to ensure appropriate photographic digitization standards are met, both for permanent digital archival storage and web accessibility. As needed, the Archival Intern will consult with the project coordinator and leaders for assistance in describing and cataloging archival material.
This opportunity is initially available for the Spring /Summer of 2017 (3+ months); the Fall 2017 semester (4 months) and the Spring 2018 semester (4 months). ACOR anticipates continuing to offer this paid internship to one intern per semester or cycle for the duration of the funding for the project or at least three academic years.

Organizational Setting and Reporting
This internship is located with the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT), Department of Management (DM). The internship is UNPAID and full-time (five days per week for 35 hours), for a minimum duration of two (2) months and can be extended up to six (6) months. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
The intern will provide support to HR-IT Office of Information and Communication Technology’s strategic and/or operational programmes. Examples of duties to be performed may include the following

  • Support towards the various stages of systems development using information technology project management methodology, to include for example design, development, installation, systems analysis, programming and operations support;
  • Participate in training activities, including the preparation of training material and user documentation, and compilation of relevant information;
  • Support towards strengthened business relationships to include coordination of responses to client requirements and the delivery of HR-IT Office of Information and Communication Technology services and solutions;
  • Provide support towards ensuring adoption of HR-IT Office of Information and Communication Technology initiatives, to include the development of communications and marketing materials, using design, publishing and/or video production software;
  • Attend and support the preparation of meetings, conferences, workshops and other events;
  • Support the activities of HR-IT Office of Information and Communication Technology as needed as deemed necessary by their supervisor
  • Modify and update manual of operations containing specific and relevant written procedures, policies and forms to meet quality standard requirements.

The Fellowship is open to Canadian or US graduates of Conservation programmes.
The Preservation and Conservation Department at the Library of Trinity College Dublin is accepting applications for a Samuel H. Kress Conservation Fellowship.  The Fellowship will focus on the treatment of a papyrus Book of the Dead.  This position will suit either a Paper or Papyrus Conservator and will involve carrying out the conservation treatment and materials analysis of the selected Book, as well as developing a template for the treatment, imaging, storage and display of the collection of Books of the Dead held in the Library.
The Kress Fellow will be encouraged to research the imagery, hieroglyphic text and named original owner of the Book of the Dead, as well as the history of the current 19th century mounting and framing system.  The project will be led by the Preservation and Conservation Department with collaboration from the Manuscripts Department and the Department of Classical Studies.
The Kress Fellow will participate in advocacy and public engagement associated with the project, and other outreach activities of the Preservation and Conservation Department.  They will join a dynamic department with 6 conservators, 2 preservation assistants, 1 technician, and 1 intern, and will participate in the responsibilities of the team in delivering the stewardship strategy for the library.
The Fellowship is funded by Samuel H. Kress Foundation, and awarded by the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation (FAIC), to the value of $32,000 US.  The placement will run from October 2016 – September 2017.

Internships

The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see the Internship web pages for further details).
The purpose of the programme is:
  • to provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;
  • to benefit the IAEA’s programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.
The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.

 Organizational Setting

The Department of Management (MT) provides a ‘platform of services’ that serves as a foundation for the successful delivery of the IAEA’s scientific and technical programmes. Its mission statement is as follows: “MT is a partner and a business enabler that champions change and efficiency, leveraging a common purpose”. Thus, among other support activities, it assists a scientific manager in recruiting the right expert, helps a technical officer coordinate the purchase of radiation equipment and ensures that all Board documents are translated and distributed on a timely basis to Member States.
The Division of General Services provides service functions throughout the IAEA such as travel and transport support, facilities management, archives and records management, and management of the VIC Commissary. It has five sections.
The Archives and Records Management Section establishes a framework for the creation and management of authentic, reliable and usable records, capable of supporting IAEA business functions and activities for as long as they are required. The Section is divided into three Units: Mail, Records and the Archives Unit.
Main Purpose
 The internship is designed to provide experience in Archives and Records Management Section.
Functions / Key Results Expected
• Archival processing constituting appraisal of semi-current records
• Assisting in developing promotional activities such as guided tours, exhibitions, and development of an online portal
• Creation of finding aids and drafting series level descriptions based on the ISAD (G)
• Developing strategies in long-term preservation of digital records
• Revision of the institution-wide functional file plan
• Revision of the institution-wide retention schedule
Skills and Expertise
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
Qualifications and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree or graduate level studies in the relevant fields in archives and records management
Applicant Eligibility
  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
  • Candidates must not previously have participated in the IAEA’s internship programme.
  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; fluency in any other IAEA official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) an asset.
  • Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
