Job: Head Librarian

5/20/14 – Job listing updated on TIE – still available
3/21/14 –  Head Librarian
Kodaikanal International School, Tamil Nadu, India
Kodakanal International School, in Tamil Nadu, India, is a leading international school in South India, with a distinguished history of service over 100 years. It is a residential, co-educational school for 500 students from K-12 located in the Palni hills, Tamil Nadu. KIS is accredited by MSA and offers the IB program and US high school diploma.
Sarah P’s comments:  This school claims to be rated the #1 international residential school in India.  Two factors for concern are: there are many positions for this school posted on TIE and there are no reviews on International School Reviews (though I did find one at Glassdoor: http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Kodaikanal-International-School-Reviews-E519487.htm).  Still, for those who want to work in India, a chance to work at a school in a rural location could be an opportunity to see the best of India as the cities are, sadly, dirty and disease-ridden.

Job: Senior Librarian

3/20/14 – Senior Librarian

Application deadline:  3.21.14

The USP is one of two regional universities in the world and is the leading tertiary education provider and research facility in the South Pacific. With over 26,000 students around the Pacific region, we are supported by 12 Pacific Island Countries; Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.  The appointee will be responsible for the development, management and operations of the Alafua Campus Library located in Apia, Samoa. The appointee will be expected to implement customer and technical services to meet the information needs of the Alafua Campus.

Sarah P’s comments:  If you want to go to the South Pacific, this is probably the best place to work for.  However, what is with the four day application window?!  I dislike institutions that do this as it makes me  believe they already have a candidate mind.  However, on the off-chance that it is a posting error, submit your CV if you have the required qualifications.

Performs technical services functions including acquisitions, procurement, cataloging/classification, physical processing, and accountability of materials. Supervises assigned staff. Assists chief librarian in overall management of the library.
Sarah P’s comments:  Apply now if interested!  This is a typical USAJobs ad where the open window is only three days.  I asked a friend who was a military librarian who advised it might mean there is a person already in line for the position but not necessarily.  He recommended creating a profile ahead of time and then when a position with a short application window pops up, you are read to apply ASAP.

Job: Reference Librarian

3/12/14 –  Reference Librarian
Nazarbayev University Library, Astana, Kazakhstan
Sarah P’s comments:  A fairly new university.  I first saw an ad for librarians, posted only on IFLAjobs, in 2011.  I spoke with Jim Agee (at that time) about the position and he informed me that that the pay is low but the experience great.  I think he is searching for young librarians willing to work hard to gain experience.
